FOUR MILE RESERVE

Public BBQ

Four Mile Reserve offers a surprisingly peaceful riverside escape along the Barwon River, where spreading gum trees provide generous shade over grassy camping spots. The track in can be narrow in places but accommodates larger vans, with turning space at the end allowing visitors to scout locations before committing. Those seeking privacy can venture further along the river to find their own secluded patch beneath the iconic Australian landscape of towering riverbanks and muddy flowing water. The facilities tell a mixed story. Basic flushing toilets function adequately (though the ladies' facility leaks with each flush), and cold water showers fed from the river prove remarkably welcome when temperatures soar to 45 degrees. Non-potable water is available. The amenities show signs of flood damage, with cleaning efforts apparently limited to fresh toilet paper and basic wipe-downs, leaving signs, tables, and walls in less-than-pristine condition. The boat ramp provides river access, and the atmosphere remains genuinely tranquil, with only a handful of campers and occasional local anglers appearing. It's an eight-minute drive to Brewarrina's shops, which close at 6pm on weekdays. For self-contained travellers not fussed about pristine facilities, this free camping area delivers a proper bush experience with enough basic infrastructure to make it work.

Generally, it is permissible to utilize your own gas BBQ, provided it remains under continuous supervision. However, the usage of Charcoal BBQ's is typically restricted, with the exception of parks equipped with designated charcoal disposal bins.
